The main reason is production discontinuation and limited remaining stock. No new goods will be produced, and market supply only depends on existing channel inventory.

1. Factory production has stopped

AMD has officially stopped mass production of the 5000-series CPU’s. There is no new wafer supply from TSMC. As inventory continues to decrease, market supply keeps shrinking. Popular gaming models such as 5700X3D and 5500X3D are extremely short in stock, leading to obvious price increases.

2. High market demand and cost advantages

The AM4 platform supports DDR4 memory and old-generation motherboards. Compared with the newer AM5 platform, its overall upgrade cost is much lower.

Many users, assembly shops and small workstation buyers still choose the 5000 series for its stable performance and cost-effectiveness. Sustained downstream demand further pushes up market prices.

3. Channel inventory is tight and concentrated

Most remaining spot goods are controlled by major distributors. With limited stock and steady demand, suppliers slow down shipment and adjust prices upward. The traditional Q4 stocking season further accelerates inventory consumption and pushes prices higher.

4. Rising manufacturing costs

TSMC’s 7nm production cost has increased. AMD has also planned overall price adjustments for Q4. The rising manufacturing cost, combined with stock shortages, causes continuous market price growth.

5. Price performance of different models

• 5700X3D / 5500X3D: The largest price increase, serious stock shortage.

• 5600 / 5600X / 5500: Moderate price increase with relatively sufficient stock.

• 5900X / 5950X: Inventory continues to decrease with steady price growth.

Procurement Suggestions

1. The AMD 5000 series is a stock-limited product with no future production replenishment. Prices will remain firm or higher in the later period.

2. Adopt order-based procurement. Avoid large-scale blind stocking to prevent high-price inventory risks.

3. Appropriately consider alternative products, such as AMD 7000 series or Intel 12th/13th Gen CPU’s.

4. For X3D gaming models, confirm real-time spot stock and delivery time before placing orders due to large price fluctuations.

AMD Ryzen 5000 (AM4 platform) desktop CPU’s have risen sharply in price recently.
